About

You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough.

Mae West

That line stopped me the first time I read it. Because I had spent years doing the opposite, crossing my fingers and hoping “once” would be enough, without anyone showing me how to do it right.

There is no manual for being the oldest sibling. No big sister to call when your first job turns toxic, no big brother who has been through the money mistakes and survived to explain them. You blaze the trail, moving forward, fingers crossed, hoping for the best.

That was me. Building a career, furthering my studies, raising a family, all at once and all without a road map. I did a lot of figuring out the hard way.

Somewhere along the way, I started having conversations with my younger self. Things I wish someone had told me. Moments I wish had not been so lonely. Lessons that cost too much to keep to myself.

This Life Thing is my answer to those conversations.

If you have ever wished someone a little further down the road would just turn around and talk to you honestly, this is that.

Whether you are navigating your first real job, trying to make your money behave, wondering whether a relationship is worth saving, or just looking for someone who gets it, TLT was built for you. Not by someone who has it all figured out, but by someone who is very happy to fail forward and share every lesson along the way.

About Mrs L

I am Mrs L, a writer, business owner, CEO, chairperson of an NPO, traveller, and lifelong student of this life thing. I have had a full career in corporate and gone on to build multiple companies that have stood the test of time. I have also had my fair share of lonely stretches where a voice from someone on the same road would have meant everything.

I write from South Africa, which means you will find a local lens here that you will not get from most lifestyle publications. Real perspectives on travel, money, careers, and everyday life from this corner of the world.

I am not a guru. I am not here to sell you a course. I am just your older sibling, talking to you the way I always wished someone had talked to me.

What you’ll find here

TLT covers the real stuff life throws at you: careers, money, travel, relationships, personal growth, and the quiet questions nobody really talks about. The articles are built to be honest, practical, and written from experience. No recycled advice. No empty motivation. Just useful things, written for grown-ups figuring it out.

So welcome. Pull up a chair. This life thing is a lot, but it is better when we talk about it.

With love and gratitude,
Mrs L
